Surprise! Today a group of lovely bloggers is throwing a virtual bridal shower for Miss Julie of Table for Two. Julie and her adorable fiancé Jason are gettin’ hitched this month, and we wanted to share in their festivities!
Well hi! It seems like ages since I’ve haunted this space. There are a couple of reasons for my blog absence that I feel like I should share with you guys before we get to these riiiiidiculous cookie bars.
Two days till Thanksgiving. Two. Days! I can smell the stuffing now, people. If you haven’t figured it out by now, I could happily make my meal on this carbiest of side dishes alone…even the turkey seems gratuitous sometimes.
In spite of my preoccupation with the entree, though, I always make sure to leave room for dessert. And just in case you’re still scrambling for something sweet to counteract the tryptophan, I’m sharing these bangarang (technical term) brownies with you.
Time to celebrate fall at Chip Chip Hooray! I finally broke out the pumpkin, and oh my gosh, did my kitchen smell good. I’ve been waiting to make these pumpkin spice bars since October of last year, when a lovely friend of mine (hi, Manhattan!) brought them to homecoming at my alma mater. With the advent of autumn, they were the first treat on my must-bake list. And I had an even better reason to feature them today…
So, can we agree that the Fourth of July is just weird this year? I mean, it couldn’t get more awkward than having a holiday that is just made for weekend BBQing on a Wednesday. Of all days.
When do you take your long weekend? Do you take vacation on Monday and Tuesday and then still have the tail end of a week left? Or, do you call out Thursday and Friday and have a post-Fourth party. (Or are you like me, and not in possession of enough vacation days to take any time off? True story. Bummer.)
I feel really bad for my roommate. It must be nigh unbearable to come late from work to the smell of warm, gooey peanut butter goodness wafting down our hallway; see the above decadent bars sitting on the kitchen table to cool…and NOT be able to have any.
Before you convince yourselves that I’m the worst roommate ever, these were made in honor of one of my good friends at work who’s leaving us to go get her MFA out west. I organized a going away party for her last week, and my reputation as “that girl who bakes stuff” at my office of course dictated that I had to provide something sweet and fabulous.
So, remember when Charlie left for Africa a-way back at the end of June?
Well, he’s back. Yay! However, there is a not-yay part.
Back in the spring, he tore his ACL and his meniscus (in a dancing competition…on a cruise ship…trust me, the story is as good as it sounds) but it went undiagnosed until right before he left for Africa. You’d think that couldn’t happen, right? That doctors with medical degrees couldn’t miss something like that? Yeah, I’m with you on that. But anyway, by the time they figured out that significant connective tissues were separating, he was already so close to leaving that the surgery had to be scheduled for when he returned. Welcome home…now let us cut you open.
