Well, since it snowed (?!?!) in New York yesterday, I finally feel like I can say it — it’s the holiday season! Granted, nothing accumulated, but I left my apartment to catch the subway and got smacked in the eye with a big ol’ flake. Nice to see you too, winter.

Hi friends! I’m back from a very long summer blogging hiatus, and so happy to be bringing you sweet treats once more. It was quite an eventful summer – I went to two weddings, two bridal showers, and took a couple of gorgeous vacations.
But hands down the most exciting thing that’s happened to me since I blogged last…I got engagedlast weekend! It’s been a whirlwind of excitement and happiness, and I feel like the luckiest girl ever. (I know we all say that, but it’s true.) So you may see some musings on weddings start to creep in here. I promise, they’ll always be accompanied by food.

I know you’re all sick to death of me talking about the weather, but as I type this, the snow is still dripping from the boots I kicked off as soon as I walked in the door of my apartment. It was, for all intents and purposes, blizzarding sideways as I trudged home from class tonight. Can someone please explain to me what bizarre weather continuum I’ve entered?

Well, hi there. How are you doing? It’s been two days since Hurricane Sandy blew out of the tristate, but the New York metro area is definitely still feeling its effects. I was one of the very, very lucky ones who did not lose power throughout the storm, but my hometown is completely in the dark with multiple trees fallen on every street. I’ve been able to keep in touch with my family periodically, and my parents have a small generator they’ve been using to run the fridge, but things are definitely messy.
With that said, it’s nothing compared to what residents of parts of Long Island, the Jersey shore and Breezy Point are dealing with at the moment. Please keep the millions affected in your thoughts and prayers–rebuilding is happening, and we’re a resilient bunch, but this storm touched so many.
Wow, we bloggers really are going crazy with the pumpkin, huh?? When I posted my pumpkin spice bars last week, I was bowled over by the other delicious pumpkin recipes awaiting me that day in my Google Reader. Clearly that’s not stopping me from posting another recipe full of fall flavors. 🙂
Time to celebrate fall at Chip Chip Hooray! I finally broke out the pumpkin, and oh my gosh, did my kitchen smell good. I’ve been waiting to make these pumpkin spice bars since October of last year, when a lovely friend of mine (hi, Manhattan!) brought them to homecoming at my alma mater. With the advent of autumn, they were the first treat on my must-bake list. And I had an even better reason to feature them today…
