August. The month that gives meaning to the term “the dog days of summer.” Like many of the other bloggers whose posts I read, I’m in total disbelief that it’s already halfway through the month–and that summer is nearly over. Now, don’t get me wrong, the days upon days of sweltering heat seem plenty long while I’m in ’em, but I turned around and all of you who’ve got kiddies are posting back-to-school pictures. What?!
(Nerd consolation: I’m going back to school this year too! Time to go to Staples!! Buying notebooks = one of my favorite things.)
Did you know that Sunday is World Nutella Day?!
One of my favorite things about this whole foodie community is finding out the random national food holidays that occur pretty much every day. There’s even a whole month for oatmeal, my new breakfast love! So when it just so happened that I tried a recipe with Nutella during the week where World Nutella Day fell…well, sounds like fate to me!
Tis the season to be jolly! And if by being jolly you mean eating approximately 10,000 calories daily of Christmas cookies and assorted holiday desserts, then I am your poster girl for jolly. Ooof.
So as I sit here munching on the latkes my roommate’s mother sent over, it occurs to me that you probably have some sort of New Year’s plans. Maybe you’re going to a big fancy party. Or maybe you’re hosting one (good luck and godspeed)! Or maybe you’re just going to sit on your couch under a warm fuzzy blanket, watch the ball drop behind Ryan Seacrest’s increasingly surgically altered profile, and fall asleep at 12:03. In any event, you’re gonna need something to nosh on, no?
That’s what I thought.
Full disclosure: I am a compulsive snacker. When I bring my lunch to work, I also have a snack for mid-morning, a snack to go along with my sandwich/salad/entrée du jour, and a snack for that 4 p.m. hour when it’s not quite time to go home yet but my tummy’s getting rumbly.
